Rain Is A Good Thang!

The weather has changed abruptly. In my last post I talked about the 95° Saturday we had, followed by a hail storm. Sunday was cooler, in the mid-70's, and mostly cloudy. But as of Monday (Labor Day = the last day of summer), it's been raining. And raining. And then raining some more. And it's not the warm summer rain we've been enjoying either. It's cold and gray and dark and wet.

It's been a lot of this:

The sudden change to Fall caught us by surprise and we are not completely prepared with rain clothes. Luckily, Jake already got his boots and a rain jacket because this week was his first week of school. So far he is enjoying it, I think, though there is already a lot of work.

But I digress. Rain, is a good thing! Here are some reasons why:

1) Insta-lake in your backyard - just add water!

2) And speaking of lakes, check out what happened to the river behind our house:

This is the second time (the first) we've seen it become a lake, but the water was much higher this time.

8.60 feet, I think it's usually about 3-4 feet

3) The cat has be very independent this summer and would only allow limited cuddling. But now that it's cold and drippy he likes to be petted and bundled. He sleeps with us at night now, and keeps me company on the futon while I work.

Yup, there's a cat under there.

4) Cold, rainy weather is a great excuse for some good soup! Chicken, veggies, and rice = yum!

5) I was serious when I said we weren't prepared for the rain, I don't even have an appropriate jacket. But, that's why the rain is a good thing - I get a new one on Tuesday!
