The Frost Cometh

This morning it was cold.

Frosty message.

Today we woke up to the first below-30-degree morning. In fact, at 8:30am, it was only 28°F!

I'm a sucker for weather and was delighted to discover our first ground frost. In fact, as soon as I realized the frost was not just on the roof tops, I grabbed the camera and ran out of the house in my PJs to take some pictures of the lawn and frozen leaves.

I quickly realized my pajamas were not quite adequate at 28°F and ran back inside, but I was too excited to stay for long. We got bundled up and went for an early morning walk to the lake. It had been about a week since I last walked there and I couldn't believe how different it was. A lot of the trees are bare now and you can see far into the forest.

The sun was beginning to come over the treetops and had just touched the water when we arrived, warming the surface and melting the frost from the surrounding plants. All around the river steam rose in a very picturesque mist.

We experienced our first icy bridge (there are signs all around Michigan, on all bridges and over passes, "Bridge may be icy") and found a frosted table.

And although the insects were all hunkered down in their hiding places, we did have some fowl companions.

The sun was beginning it's defrost by the time we got home, but it's been cold all day.

Perfect weather for a warm blanket and some hot chocolate!
